Our franchise operation in Worcester has recently donated £500 to support four local men who took part in Macmillan Cancer Relief’s ‘Longest Day Golf Challenge’ this week.

Simon Bailey, Adrian Webb, Dean Sherwood and Jason Neve started playing golf at the Churchill and Blakedown Golf Club near Kidderminster at 0500 and 72 holes, 30 miles and 16 hours of almost continuous walking later, they putted their final shots at 9pm. The group raised £2,500 for the charity in total.

The event was particularly poignant for the four men, who play golf together at the club most weekends, as Adrian is himself recovering from cancer.

Last year saw over 3,000 teams across the UK sign up to play 72 holes in just one day, and raise 1.5 million for people affected by cancer.

Simon Bailey said,

‘It was a great experience; we had a lot of fun on the way and were really well supported by the Churchill and Blakedown Golf Club who not only gave us a free lunch but also stayed with us right through to the end, which was great of them. The last 18 holes were a real struggle and it is fair to say I think we are all suffering with sore legs, backs and arms today.’

The team said that knowing what a great cause they were playing for and with Adrian, who is still on medication for his own condition, taking part as well, helped them get through the tougher moments and spurred them on to the end.

Simon said,

‘It is such a great cause; would we do it again? I’m not sure, maybe something different next year!’

Everyone here at Avant Healthcare Services head office sends their huge congratulations to Adrian, Simon, Jason and Dean and well done Avant Healthcare Services (Worcester) for supporting such a great cause.
