We love to communicate with our care and support workers and discover the challenges they face and the rewards they get working with with Avant.
In this series during carers week www.carersweek.org we speak to a selection of our care and support workers and discuss the challenges they face and how the support of the local community can help.
Below is the second in the series and answers from Elena Vlad
Why did you start working in care?
I had no idea what care means when I started because I was new in the country but after I started working I got really attached to the job because I had great customers and great people to work for. I really enjoyed it.
What do you enjoy about your role?
Working with people, that is what I enjoy the most, they are really really nice people. Kind people who are always willing to help and stories to tell which I enjoy to hear. You can learn a lot from them. I had a really nice customer who worked in Heathrow Airport and she had all kinds of stories about what she used to get up to.
What challenges do you face?
I have two small children that can be challenging to fit in. Sometimes you can have challenging customers to work with but after time it gets easier. The long hours can be tough.
Do you feel supported?
Both the family and the company really help. My husband really supports me at home and at the company all the colleagues are really helpful. Especially my line manager.
How does your local community support you?
There is not a lot of local businesses that I can say help because I am not taking a lot of people. People in the community tend to understand what we do and appreciate what we do. I feel very supported by my local community.
